Tüms Yeshim
About the exhibition
Tüms Yeshim was born in Cyprus in 1950. His family arrived in Kenya in 1952. Educated at Nakuru Primary School, followed by the Duke of York (now Lenana School), he went on to study at the College of Engineering in London and used his newly acquired skills to secure several jobs subsequently. In the early 90s he moved back to Kenya and has been working here, on and off, for almost thirty years.
Initially his workshop undertook both metal work and sculpting but he quickly found his niche and devoted all his energy to his beloved sculptures. With a background in mechanical engineering his work is meticulous in its finish, often containing moving parts and celebrating both found and intricately fashioned media. Considered something of a genius in the industry, his work is collected both locally and internationally. His artistic career took off in 1994, at his first solo show with One Off, when a major work was sold to Lady Cecil for her property in Laikipia.
