Then and Now
About the exhibitionThen and Now exhibits a range of paintings which are a small representation from The East African Visual Arts Trust (EAVAT) Collection currently held in perpetuity for the people of Kenya. None of these works are available to purchase but we have paired each with a recent work from the same artist which is for sale. Many of the works from the Collection were collected between 2000 and 2010; of particular interest is the comparison between the older works and the recent works by each artist.
The EAVAT collection currently comprises in excess of 100 works. Many of Kenya’s most renown artists have donated works to the collection with the intention of promoting artistic expression from the region. Trustees; Anis Pringle, Susan Githuku, Annie Mather and Carol Lees, along with curators James Muriuki and Marc Van Rampelberg are all actively seeking to facilitate the display of the collection both locally and internationally. They are also hopeful of creating a mobility and acquisitions fund and would ultimately wish to establish the collection in a purpose built permanent home. |
