About the exhibitionThat which divides is an exhibition of some of the best 'recent works' from the gallery stock. We are delighted to include three exceptional works from Peterson Kamwathi's recently ended show P(a)lace, which investigate the division created by community verses personal space. Olivia Pendergast by contrast, paints idealistic landscapes which could be seen as some of the biggest representations of economic division and Richard Kimathi's figures duplicate this, while they float around a Garden of Eden. Elias Mung'ora and Nelson Ijakaa opt to portray tough urban street scenes populated with hard working Kenyans who are often at the bottom of the 'food chain'. Lastly, in contrast, Peter Ngugi paints the 'fat cats' from the political and entrepreneurial classes; those to whom division is a conscious tool in their arsenal of weapons to create unrest on the grandest scale.
