About Anja Lohmueller and the Collection
Born in Berlin in the year 1958, Anja Lohmueller started her career as an advertiser at the internationally operating agency Doyle, Dane & Bernbach (DDB). In the following two decades she created a couple of award-winning marketing campaigns working as a creative director in cities like Frankfurt or Hamburg.
In 1992 she opened her own advertising agency in Berlin that quickly became one of the leading creative agencies in the German capital. The client list of her agency ranged from supermarkets to insurance companies, from radio stations to business associations. |
At the tender age of 22 she started to collect art. The well-known gallerist Conrad Fischer, who was one of the most respected art dealers in Germany in those days, guided her first steps to becoming a patron of the arts. Today her German collection comprises masterpieces of internationally renowned artists like Richard Long, On Kawara, Sol LeWitt, Thomas Schuette and Lawrence Wiener.
It was a short and incidental holiday visit to Samburu that inflamed Anja’s love for Kenya. In 2009 she rented a house in Nairobi – and got in touch with Kenyan art. In just six years she built up a concentrated collection of African art, Piece by piece selected with the eye of a connoisseur. Anja’s collection is like a heart-pounding journey through the contemporary art of this continent; mainly comprising great pieces from Kenyan artists.
The entire collection of over 60 pieces is being sold through One Off Gallery.
