Sankara - Reflections
About the exhibitionOlivia Pendergast"Painting people or figurative brings a great deal of joy. There is the experience of unconditional love when I paint people. The same applies to animals. Having animals near in life is one of the easiest ways to experience my “self” as the unconditioned. It seems so many people miss the opportunity to meet an animal and feel the love that they can potentially offer. I chose to paint some works of animals to feel that exquisite connection."

Linda FurnissLinda Furniss (Kenyan, born 1978) uses the slightly unusual medium of oil pastels and watercolour pencils to capture overlooked, vanishing or wholly lost aspects of Kenya. Her technique is realistic but with a touch of flamboyance in the strokes of the pastel, especially in later works and landscapes. This can be seen in 'Tangled'.
Linda has been influenced especially by the illustrators of the 'golden age', particularly Rockwell, and by Edward Hopper and Timothy Brooke among others. She paints old houses because she has been happy in them so often and they are full of character. Her work is on permanent display at Nairobi Club and in many private collections around the world. she has also taught art and illustrated books. She is presently working on artwork for bands in the Kenya Metal scene. David RobertsDavid was born and brought up in a remote area of Kenya, on the shores of Lake Baringo. The vast landscapes, endless horizons, and patterns of organic form have always inspired him, and are deeply ingrained in his art. His mixed media work is derived from in-situ drawings, paintings, digital and pin-hole photographs. His work aims to capture the essence and spirit of landscapes and organic form using a variety of techniques to create a personal portrayal of the ever-changing light, colour and atmosphere of his world.
David’s education began in Kenya and continued in the UK, Italy, and America. He went to the University College of Creative Arts in Farnham, UK. This was followed by a year at the Firenze Arti Visive, Italy, where he studied printmaking, drawing and digital media. In 2011 whilst in Seattle, USA, he attended the Gage Academy of Art and the Pratt Fine Arts Center. In Seattle he studied oil painting, mixed media life drawing, screen printing and encaustic wax painting. David went on to Santa Fe New Mexico Community College to study digital media through the Adobe Creative Suite.
