Naomi Van Rampelberg Exhibition
About the ExhibitionEach piece is meticulously decorated with tiny spots of coloured glass-paint combining to form dot patterns in various designs. Applied individually, precisely and lovingly by the hand of the artist, the resolution (the number of spots in any given area) at which she paints is astonishing. At around 50 spots per square cm there may be close to 100 000 spots on a single glass cylinder.
This technique is the typical technology of the mechanical mass reproduction of images in use today where a machine may apply millions of spots at a time - but by hand? The glassware she produces is not only beautiful, it is awe-inspiring...in her dot world there is a gentleness and a grace; there is coordination, cooperation and balance: harmony...there is a stillness, a permanence and peace, devoid of conflict and competition: no struggle for resources, no quest for advantage. Here is an island hideaway; a streamed paradise; a digital Arcadia with the endorsement that in beauty there is always simplicity. Dominic Martin - Excerpt - Ndege Magazine - Nov 2014
