One Off is hosting two exhibitions from Saturday, 29 August - 20 September 2020 - "Latest Works I" and "Michael Musyoka"
Latest works I
About the exhibition
Latest Works I is just that; a collection of some of the newest works from the gallery by some of our most popular artists.
It is a while since we have offered works by Peterson Kamwathi for sale. The show gives collectors the opportunity to acquire a work from last year, Untitled II from the Noble Savage Series plus three very recent works exploring journeys, both forced and elective. Anthony Okello's latest lively investigation is into the nature of vessels and particularly sanitizers. Olivia Pendergast's beautiful oil works were painted during the lock-down and make the case that everyone has a crown or a halo, everyone is a King or a Queen, not just those 'born with a silver spoon in their mouths'. Florence Wangui's wonderfully crafted oils also reference the ongoing pandemic whilst Fitsum investigates our shared history, referencing plates as he weaves different themes into the surface; ceramics which came mainly from Europe were adopted by the inhabitants of the East African Coast as their own and therefore these artifacts became part of the African Cultural Heritage. Meanwhile Beatrice Wanjiku and El Tayib continue with series which are ongoing. We welcome Joseph Nabster to the gallery for the first time with his quirky animal sculptures, made from re-cycled nails and bulbs and bursting with humour. We look forward to seeing you at the gallery and hope you enjoy the exhibition. |
