Florence Wangui
I was born and raised in Nairobi Eastlands area. My interest in art
started in my kindergarten years and ever since, my passion in art has been growing. I started working as a visual artist under the tutelage of Patrick Mukabi at the Go Down Arts Centre since January 2012. This has improved my skills and I have continued to work there with my main media being charcoal on paper and also acrylics. I draw inspiration from life itself, its manifestation in my surroundings, its simplicity and complexity. This includes both animate and inanimate subjects which I draw as I see them. Currently I have been working on charcoal drawings of chickens inspired by their simple nature, forms and character. I continue to learn from these subjects by observing them and relating them to us humans. Florence Wangui – Nairobi – January 2013 |
