About the exhibition
Our Christmas show is always an eclectic mix of fabulous new, previously un-shown works and treasures from the gallery which we feel deserve special attention; one of the best of these is a jewel of an Anthony Okello painting from his Masquerade series. 'The Epilogue' seems to epitomize all that was 2020 and yet it was painted in 2013. The figure sports a bright red mask and his troubled eyes look towards the ground. This prophetic painting was originally sold at auction and now comes onto the secondary market. All of you who missed acquiring a piece from this series have a second opportunity.
Other highlights are the latest works from Beatrice Wanjiku, which signify new beginnings and re-birth. Peterson Kamwathi exhibits a set of beautifully conceived etchings, Olivia Pendergast will show landscape and figurative works, whilst Lisa Milroy is exhibiting paintings from her "Weaving series", whilst also offering a range of affordable prints in recognition of the horrendous financial constraints many have suffered over the last months. The gallery is delighted to exhibit a selection of originals from Geoff Weedon, following on from the sell out success of his prints. Fitsum Berhe is represented by a work painted in 2007 and by three works from this year. Thom Ogonga exhibits one of his prints, Florence Wangui shows another jewel-like oil painting and Churchill Ongere will show two ink on paper works.
Sculpture is also a feature of this exhibition with numerous entries from Jackson and Samuel Wanjau and three granite pieces from Naftal Momanyi.
As ever, we wish you a safe holiday season. We very much hope that you take advantage of our airy garden and art spaces to relax and enjoy all the art on display. Please let us know if you need any further information.
